Breaking the Barrier to Coding
Salon A
Megan Bacorn
Most likely you aren’t a Computer Science teacher and you don’t have to be to introduce students to critical and analytical thinking while you teach the process of coding. In this session, participants will be introduced to coding (plugged and unplugged) and Hour of Code activities to engage our students K-6. Participants can navigate code.org via laptop, iPad or tablet.
Navigating the Do's and Don't's of Copyright
Salon B
Mike McCormick
Understanding copyright laws and regulations can be challenging for any educator. This session will review some of the basics and common mistakes educators and students make when creating new works. We will collaborate on different copyright scenarios on Socrative to encourage best practices.
Not Your Grandma's Classroom Management
Salon C
Josh Ratliff
Today, our classrooms are filled with technology. Not only are there a bunch of school-issued devices available to us as teachers, but there are a large number of student-owned devices in the mix as well. How does the emergence of technology-saturated classrooms change the way we think about classroom management? We’ll explore this idea and more in this session. Oh… And we’ll be having a lot of fun too! The WVDE has a new program called Robo-to-Go and we’ll be using some fun robots in our discussion. See you there!
